Should students study ransomware through real cases?

Ransomware attacks can cause serious disruption, making them useful examples for understanding how cyber threats develop. While preparing a case study about a major attack, I considered write my cyber security assignments and found that following the timeline of an incident helped me understand the importance of backups, access controls, and employee awareness. Real cases made the security concepts feel much less abstract. Do you think students should study more real-world cyber incidents instead of only theoretical examples?
